Twine Addict

I've recently gotten pretty addicted to using twine in crafting. I've always loved the natural, earthy feel of it, but always forgot to buy it when I went to the store. This week I finally remembered! Here are some of my recent creations using twine.

Recycled "L" with felt flowers

Recycled wreath with paper and felt flowers

What do you like to make with twine?

P.S. would anyone like to see a tutorial on any of these? :)

Early Christmas Crafting

I've been wanting to change up my Christmas decor and finally got around to deciding on a theme for my tree. I want to do a vintage-inspired tree with primarily cream and black ornaments. My previous tree was decorated black, white, apple green, and turquoise. It was pretty, but I wanted something more simple.

The only problem with changing my Christmas decorations is that I've got a storage container full of beautiful ornaments that don't fit into the theme and I'm not really wanting to spend money on all new ornaments. The solution? Make my own ornaments! I was greatly inspired by Everything Etsy's 101 Christmas Ornament Tutorials. Many of these ornaments are tutorial-inspired and some of them just came to me when the creative juices were flowing.

Anyway, here are a few of the ornaments that I have made so far!

Get Felt Up!

Okay, only kidding. But I do have quite an obsession with felt. For a while, my town only had one decent source for felt, but now we have two more stores with loads of unique felt colors! I've been buying it up like crazy and, lucky for me, the felt generally only runs between .25 and .30 cents a piece. Plus, I usually have a coupon, which takes each piece down a few cents. Nice!

I've been experimenting with felt projects and thought I'd share a few with you guys.

First are my felt ornaments:

Next up are my felt brooches:

And last, but certainly not least, are my felt garlands:

Many of these designs are available in my Etsy shop. The rest will be sooner or later. Probably later :)

What crafty things do you like to make with felt?

Happy felting,

Lauren

Craft room inspiration

I feel like my craft room and I are never-ending battle. I just can't seem to get it looking exactly how I want it to. Nevertheless, I am going to try to tackle it a little bit every day this week. I really love looking at clean, organized craft rooms and thought I'd share a few of my favorites for inspiration.

I love the little mugs that hold scissors, etc. The curtains are awesome too!

Love, love, love this frame!

I love this color combination. The cool table makes me want to paint my plain white desk a funky color.

Well, I suppose that I should stop looking at photos and get to organizing. Have a lovely, creative day!

A bracelet fit for a superhero

My nephew is obsessed with superheroes and I've been in an especially crafty mood, so I decided to make him a superhero cuff. He already has a cape and gloves with a big "Z" on them (for Zak), so I thought I'd go with that theme.

I need to get a photo of him with his whole getup on because it's pretty adorable. He is my favorite superhero for sure! :)

Fabric cuffs

I spent last night working on some fabric cuffs and thought I'd share them with you guys! I like the grey one the best.. which one is more your style?

I am thinking about making up a bunch of these babies for my Etsy shop. What do you think?

Happy Sunday!

Bulletin board makeover!

I took before and after photos of this project, but the before photos magically disappeared. Hmm. Anyway, I have had this pretty plain, rectangular bulletin board in my room for as long as I can remember. It has been nearly any color of the rainbow, and in 2003 (I know the year because for some reason I painted the year on the board) I painted it glittery black with a strange pink color.

I've seen lots of cute fabric-covered bulletin boards and have considered buying them, but I never can make myself since I always had old faithful hanging behind my door. I saw it hanging there a few days ago with tons of random junk pinned on it and decided to do something about it.

I painted the wooden edge white and sanded it off to give it a neat, vintage look. Then I measured the size of the cork, cut a piece of fabric to go in it, and used my mom's staple gun to staple it down. I got the fabric for $2 a yard, so this project cost me right around $1. Awesome!

As you can see, I have pinned vintage button cards all over it. I went to an estate sale the other day and picked up a pretty hefty bag of vintage buttons. I've already got a huge collection, but couldn't just leave them there! I thought this was a unique way to display and store them.

So there you go. I officially don't have to hide my old-school bulletin board because now it is cute! I hope this inspires you to find something that is pretty strange looking at make it pretty and useful.

Happy crafting!

Historical inspiration

I get a lot of my creative inspiration from history. Whether it be cameo pendants, antiqued-gold charms, or retro print fabric, most of my designs have been inspired by the past. Yesterday, my boyfriend and I took my nephew to Shiloh National Military Park, which is the location of a Civil War battle. Scattered around the grounds are cannons, monuments, and the famous "Bloody Pond." While walking around one of the battlefields, I found this cannon. I absolutely love the color of the cannon, and found it intriguing that something so dangerous could be so inspiring.

Isn't it cool? If you haven't visited Shiloh and you live nearby, you should check it out. I'm no history buff, but it is a really neat place.

Custom order

I love custom orders! Some days I'm not feeling very creative and I need some direction. Custom orders definitely help with directing me! This week I received a custom order for fabric flower shoe clips for a bride. Her main color is purple, so I made sure to include some really fabulous purple paisley in her flowers. It also inspired me to branch out and start creating more shoe clips. I can't wait to list them on Etsy!

Anyway, here is the finished result of my custom order!

If you are interested in shoe clips or a custom order, feel free to email me at jewelryaccordingtoshe@gmail.com or just leave a comment! :)
